Literature as well as other cultural artefacts are privileged to examine violence critically. The main interest of our research lies not only in observing representations of violence, but also in overcoming violence. The joint international research network READING VIOLENCE consists of literary studies specialists. Their research focusses on suppressed narratives of violence, which will be laid open and take on new contours, as well as on narrative methods of reflecting violence.
Since 2013, the European research network READING VIOLENCE consists of Prof. Dr. Dagmar von Hoff (Coordinator; Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz), António Sousa Ribeiro (Centre für Social Studies/University of Coimbra/Portugal), Prof. Dr. Brigitte Jirku (University of Valencia/Spain) and Prof. Dr. Simonetta Sanna (University of Sassari/Italy). In 2016, the consortium was expanded with the addition of our partners Prof. Dr. Anja Tippner (University of Hamburg/Germany), Prof. Dr. Eneken Laanes (University of Tallinn/Estonia), Dr. Artur Pelka (University of Łódź/Poland) and Prof. Dr. Matthias Bauer (University of Flensburg/Deutschland). The research network closely cooperates with over 30 international industrial and academic partners. The network READING VIOLENCE will further expand by including additional partners, focusing especially on the association of young researchers.
