Research project: “The presence of trauma / postmemory and violence”

Trauma and memory are keywords of the discussion in cultural and literary studies. These keywords merge in the concept of postmemory. The project aims at addressing the so-called zones of silence in memory, in ordner to make a statement about the validity of the contemporary concept of trauma.

The research project “The presence of trauma / postmemory and violence” is part of the 'Projektbezogener Personenaustausch Portugal' (PPP) of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in which Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz is cooperating with the Universidade de Coimbra (Portugal). The project is sponsored by the German Academic Exchange Service from funds provided by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) on the German side and by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) on the Portuguese side.

The results of the project will be published in a detailed publication to be entitled “Die Gegenwart des Traumas/Postmemory und Gewalt”.
